Sometimes things just don't work out the way we want them to

I'm kind of discouraged about things right now. It's really strange to not be going back to school, and since I'm stuck at home for now, I'm really starting to miss all of my friends. I've been trying to find a job for about 2 months, and nothing seems to be working out. Everything that I want to do with myself depends on me being able to go on to grad school, and without getting a job and saving as much money as I can, I just can't afford to go. Unfortunately, my fancy degree in Anthropology/Asian Studies doesn't really seem to be a whole lot of help to me with the job searching in Springfield, MO. (-_-)

This about sums up how I feel about things right now:

I know I'm smart and a quick learner and that I could be a successful employee for just about anyone that would hire me... I just don't seem to be able to convince anyone else of that since I don't have the amount of work experience everyone seems to be looking for. Anyone have any job-searching advice? I could use some.

I'm sorry I can't offer any helpful advise, as I'll be in the same boat as you soon enough. But I just have to say Ganbare Megan! Nantoka naru ze! also, that image is brilliant.

Yay for making it through college and then having to face the horrors of job searching, ne? Thanks for the encouragement! (^_^)

As for the image, I really love it. I think I want a poster-sized version to put up in my room. (^_~) It came from marriedtothesea.com which also has lots of other fabulously amusing images if you're bored and need something to entertain you. <3

*sends massive loves and hugs your way*

Finding a job after college is retardedly hard. Everyone wants someone with experience, but noone's willing to give you that first shot. Right now, I'm actually working a part-time job to make ends meet while I look for something that will fit me. Chances are that you'll have to move. Whatever it is, get your resume looked at by someone who knows what they're doing, and get it out there. monster.com, careerbuilder.com... see if Tulane has a career center you can sign up with.

You can do it. Ganbatte! <3 <3

*returns massive loves and hugs along with some delicious strawberries*

It's really silly how retardedly hard finding a job is. Seriously. I've been abroad, both in Europe in high school and studying abroad in Japan, spent four years... well, I guess it's really three after subtracting Japan and the hurricane semester... in New Orleans, and have been really dedicated to my academics throughout it all. I think that college experiences really do help people learn to deal with all types of situations and that it has helped prepare me to do lots of different things... if only the people hiring would see it that way! (-_-) I know it will be a lot easier down the road to find something that fits me after I go to grad school like I want to so I can continue on with my Japanese... but before that, I've gotta settle and make some money. Springfield, MO is definitely not the up-and-coming center of activity and job opportunities that I wish it was. *sigh* Hopefully if I get a little bit saved up so I can afford to be independent and figure out where I'd like to go to grad school, I can move to somewhere with more opportunities.

<3 <3 <3 Thanks for the suggestions and the love and encouragement!! It really helps. \(^_^)/ *more hugs*
